Privacy Policy

Your screen travels only between your Mac and iPad. The apps require no account and contain no analytics or telemetry. The Mac app checks for updates online by default, with license verification for Pro; the data involved is described below.

Who is responsible

This policy covers Sidelo for Mac, the iPad app, the browser receiver and the sidelo.app website. Sidelo (迷你副屏) is operated by Liyu Wang, an independent developer, who is responsible for your information. Contact: support@sidelo.app.

Your screen stays between your devices

The Mac app captures only the virtual display it creates and sends it directly to the iPad over a USB cable or your local network. It never passes through a server and is never written to disk.

Local network traffic is currently not encrypted. Over Wi-Fi, the picture travels across your local network unencrypted: it doesn't leave your network, but other devices on the same network could technically intercept it. Use Wi-Fi on your home or another trusted network, or use USB; transport encryption is planned. Wi-Fi connections are protected by a 6-digit pairing code; the browser receiver link contains a random access token — open it only on your own devices.

What stays on your devices

So the iPad can find your Mac, the Mac app advertises itself on your local network via Bonjour (devices on the same network can see the Mac's name). The pairing code, the daily Wi-Fi usage counter and your Pro license key are stored locally on your Mac. The Mac app also keeps a short local list of recently connected iPads (model name and device ID); the iPad app stores paired Macs, their pairing codes and LAN addresses, and a device ID (a random identifier the system assigns to the app, sent only to your Mac to recognize reconnects); when connecting, it also tells your Mac the iPad's name and model. Pairing data, usage counters and iPad information are not sent to us. The Pro key is sent during online license checks, as described below.

No analytics or screen uploads

Screen streaming does not go through our servers. The apps contain no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting. The Pro key is verified locally, and online update checks also verify its status; license management makes separate online requests.

Screen Recording permission

macOS requires any app that captures screen content to be granted “Screen & System Audio Recording”. Sidelo uses it only to capture the virtual second display — not your main screen — and records or stores nothing.

Older iPads (Ad Hoc registration)

Public device enrollment is not open yet. Once available, enrollment may require the iPad UDID, model, an invitation code and an optional contact email, used for device registration with Apple, preparing a signed package and managing installation requests. The exact process and data notice will be published before enrollment opens.

Buying Pro (at launch)

Once Pro goes on sale, payment will be processed by a payment platform acting as Merchant of Record, to be announced at launch; it handles your payment details under its own privacy policy, and we never see your card or other payment details. We receive your purchase email and order ID from the platform, which we use to issue your license key, help you recover it, and handle refunds.

Update checks and license management

The Mac app checks for updates automatically by default, sending its app version. For Pro users, the request also includes the license key, a hashed device identifier and, by default, the Mac name. The name helps you recognize Macs in license management. You can disable automatic checks and sharing the Mac name separately in settings; manual checks and license-management actions still connect to the service.

The service stores records needed for license management, including device-identifier hashes, enabled Mac names, license status and the latest check time and app version. Screen content is never included. Hosting-provider logs are described below.
