Using Sidelo on an older iPad
For iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3 and iPad Air (1st gen), which top out at iOS 12. Safari browser mode needs no iPad app. The public native installation service is still in preparation.
The public Mac download is not open yet. If you already have a Mac test build, you can try the steps below. Automatic registration and one-click installation from the Mac app are in development.
Try browser mode
- Open Sidelo on an Apple silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later and grant Screen Recording permission.
- Connect the Mac and iPad to the same Wi-Fi. Open the browser connection link shown by the Mac app in Safari on the iPad, or scan its QR code.
- Move a window to the new second display. Use the Mac keyboard and mouse; touch control is not available yet.
Browser mode is free and uses a JPEG image stream. It is suitable for documents and reference material. USB video requires the native iPad app; a cable can charge the iPad while Safari receives the picture over Wi-Fi.
Native app: current status
The iOS 12 app supports native video reception, but signing and installation are still manual. A test package must be prepared for your registered device before you can install it with Apple Configurator or another compatible installer. Its expiry depends on the signing certificate and provisioning profile.
The Mac app does not yet register devices or install the iPad app for you. Public registration, invitation handling, delivery times and re-signing terms will be announced when this service opens.
Check other models
For iPadOS 15 or later, the App Store version is coming soon. Older 32-bit iPads cannot run the native app; browser compatibility on those models has not been verified. Use the model checker to see your options.
